Thyroid disorders affect a cross-section of the American public. An estimated 20 million Americans have some form of thyroid disorder, and up to 60% are unaware of it, according to the American Thyroid Association. Examples of thyroid disorders causing thyroid glands not to function correctly include hyperthyroidism, Graves’ disease, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's disease, thyroiditis, and different types of thyroid nodules. Most thyroid disorders are treatable, but early diagnosis and initiation of treatment, as well as ongoing monitoring and management, are important for the best outcomes.
This course will help caregivers understand what a thyroid disorder is, its impact on health, and how best to help individuals with a thyroid disorder.
